History

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
-Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)

Wilhelmina Lutheran Church was established by Swedish settlers who came to Canada in the early 1900s. Many of them were from the Vilhelmina, Västerbotten district in Northern Sweden. We have a long and interesting history which has been documented and updated for each of our main anniversary celebrations (50, 75 and 100yrs!)

You may read the online text by following the links on the left-hand side of this page. The online text has been updated beyond our 100th anniversary.

You are welcome to download a copy of our 100th anniversary booklet. It is nearly 60 pages in length and is available in two forms.

  1. History Document (3132Kb)
This is a ready-to-read document, more appropriate for online viewing or single-sided printing.
  2. History Booklet (5088Kb)
This is a printer-ready format intended for printing as a booklet. Just print (two sided / both sides), fold and staple! If you try to read it as-is, the pages will be out of order.

Note that these documents have been compressed to a lower resolution. If you would like a copy of the full-resolution original, please contact us. The document is very large and not practical to place online.
